The night is tired, my dear.
And, my mind, it starts to wander far from here
Won’t you tell me, tell me the words I want to hear.
When you come around,
The fever rises in my soul,
Through my mind, a cold wind blows,
Shaking me right down to the bones.
Heaven, help me. Help me when you are near.
Girl, don’t you come any closer, now.
You know, I may be shy. But, I know my way around.
And, then again, what can I do when that fever inside starts burning through.

It’s a sunny day in this Columbian spring, and we can’t see eye to eye.
Not a soul around, but I’m dressed for the town, wishing it was late July.
I took of my shades to get rid of the haze—Discovered it was all in my head.
Some might be prone to say that I’m alone. But, I’ll be alone when I’m dead.
She called herself a hellcat, not a little white dove.
She called herself a hellcat, not a woman in love.
It’s a stormy day and this sobriety stings like a sharp knife in my side.
Not a soul around, but I’m dressed for the town, wishing it was late July.
I took to the wind; I won’t see her again—better for me and you.
I’m out on the road, searching my soul. Trying to find a woman who’s true.
She called herself a hellcat, not a little white dove.
She called herself a hellcat, not a woman in love.

I’m so tired of waiting on the next train.
My patience is about topped out.
Thinking up ahead there might be some money,
But when there’s hope, there’s always doubt.
Talking on the phone, I’m talking to my baby.
But, she’s just trying to figure me out.
Coming ‘round the bend, I’m coming up my honey,
Tell her, tell her, tell her “watch out, now”

I’ve been told not to worry about money.
But, I’m afraid you’ve been lying about how much you need.
Here I am, running around just trying to make ends meet,
And you come asking for my sympathy
But, to me, it’s not new.
I’ve met plenty like you,
All trying to do what you do so well.
You know, I always can tell when to buy and when to sell
Oftentimes, I just need a little sleep
To reset my mind and put me at ease.
I’ve been telling everybody about the way you treated me.
So, don’t come asking for my sympathy.
But, to me, it’s not new.
I’ve met plenty like you,
All trying to do what you do so well.
You know, I always can tell when to buy and when to sell
